WATER RESCUE & ICE RESCUE
The Preparation and Training of Public Safety and Rescue Personnel

This fast-paced 2 - 3 hour presentation is specifically designed for all Public Safety and Rescue Personnel (i.e. Law Enforcement, Fire, Rescue, EMS, Search & Rescue, etc.). This session focuses on the Prevention, Recognition and Management of drowning and aquatic injuries, as well as the preparation and training of Public Safety and Rescue Personnel to respond to and operate appropriately at water and ice rescue incidents. This program is conducted in a classroom setting and is presented using computer-generated slides and dramatic videotape footage. Subjects include:
  • Standard of Care Principles for the Prevention, Recognition and Management of drowning and aquatic injuries;
  • Drowning Prevention Strategies;
  • Physiology of Drowning;
  • Cold Water Hazards;
  • Cold Water Rescue and Survival;
  • Threat Analysis and Risk Management Principles;
  • The Rescue Process and Incident Command;
  • Rescue from Submerged Vehicles;
  • Water and Ice Rescue and Survival Equipment;

This program is ideal for inclusion in State, Regional or National Fire, Rescue, Law Enforcement and/or EMS Conferences.


Course Instructor

The curriculum has been developed by and is presented by Gerald Dworkin, a professional Aquatics Safety and Water Rescue Consultant for Lifesaving Resources.  Dworkin has authored numerous articles which have appeared in such publications as Advanced Rescue Technology; Journal of Emergency Medical Services (JEMS); Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Magazine; Parks and Recreation Magazine; and Aquatics International.  Besides the Water Rescue Course Guidebook, Dworkin has also published the Ice Rescue Course Guidebook, The Lifeguard Competition Guidebook, and CPR for Infants and Children (published by the Child Welfare League of America).

Dworkin has an extensive background in Aquatics, Water Rescue, EMS, and Firefighting, and regularly consults as an Expert in drowning and aquatic injury litigation.  Dworkin is considered an expert and qualified educator in the field of Aquatics Safety, Water Rescue, and Ice Rescue throughout the country.
