Water Rescue Technician (WRT) Course - Testimonials
Gerry and Crew at Lifesaving Resources,
I just wanted you folks to know that on June 11th we had an 18 year old lose his life in the Kennebec River. He was swimming in the river, and was taken in the current. The reports from by-standers was that he was unable to swim or not a very strong swimmer at that. I would like to let you know that the training we had last summer certainly came into use. Everyone involved, Maine Warden Service, Kennebec County Dive Team, Fairfield Police, Waterville Fire, Winslow Fire has commented on our ability to respond and preform on this call. One of the near by residents is a professional commercial diver, he came to the station today and stated that he was impressed with our crew's knowledge and skills. I believe we owe alot to you for coming up to Fairfield last year. The training we received and the equipment that you recommended were out standing. The out come was not what we hoped for, but if there was any chance we would have saved him.
Thanks
Lt. John Robertson

I though this was an excellent 8-hour course - very organized, well structured - just enough breaks - no down time - we were always doing something. Instructors had excellent depth and practical experience. Very organized. Start and ended on time. Presentations were broken up very well with video clips. I would recommend this course to my department for others. Thank you Gerry and Mark.

Gerry-
Thank you for a great day up in Acton. I wanted to contact you and let you know how thoroughly impressed Mike and I were with your presentation modules and training evolutions. I know that we submitted assessment forms at the end of the class that essentially said the same thing, but I thought I would write it out in addition to circling "5" from top to bottom. It was clear that you, without a doubt, knew what you were talking about, and were serious about teaching the skills effectively.
The classroom work was seamless, and very informative. Both Mike and I agreed that the inclusion of the media footage was an essential part to the presentation. What was of particular interest was the footage of the different rescue companies and how a lack of planning and a lack of respect for the water (they do teach that scene safety is number one, right?) just adds bodies to the problem. My inland water experience centers primarily around canoeing calm water, but having spent a year on a commercial fishing boat, my respect for the water is quite sincere. Particularly water that is cold and fast-moving. Along with the footage, the body of work that you have assembled in your text provides a focused delivery of the most important elements of safe water rescue. Very well done. The practical evolutions were conducted with the same professional and confident approach, and again, it was clear that you take your job very seriously. We respect that. Our only regret was that there weren't more
things to do. We agreed that we were willing to throw each other off a dam so you could teach us the most effective rescue techniques-of course if you had to leave Acton Fire on the shore, that would be okay. The techniques, product introduction and review, and "wet practice" was, again, very well done. While both Mike and I are relatively new to EMS(myself more so), we are able to recognize sound training and competent instructors. It was clear that you and your company are a first-rate organization and we were proud to have taken part in your program. I will be back for the ice rescue course, and if Mike is back from Montana, he will also attend. I will enthusiastically recommend your organization to rescue personnel I come in contact with.
Thank you again.
Thank you again for an excellent class,
Brian Hagan

"On behalf of the Officers and Members of the Willow Grove Volunteer Fire
Company, I would like to let you know how impressed the members of my
company were with the education and interactions with your instructors.
They presented the classroom information and life experiences in a
professional manner that got the message across while not losing the
students.'
'They provided information to the members that challenged them to think;
challenged them in physical ways; and the biggest challenge to work as a
team in some evolutions.'
'Based on our real life experiences in Upper Moreland, we have done multiple
training sessions on the topic of water rescue and of all I would have to
say, this one was top of the list! My greatest fear as Chief is having one
of my members hurt, and your class provided information on how to stay safe,
and work during adverse conditions. The information that your Instructors
shared could very well save one of my members' lives and for that I cannot
say thank you enough."
Sincerely,
Brian W. Focht, Chief

"I just attended your Water Rescue Technician course at Crotched Mountain this month, and again want to say how much I enjoyed the course. I had arrived planning on it being like most of the other public safety training courses I have attended, i.e. sitting in a class room listening to lectures, followed by a feeble attempt at a realistic scenario.
At the completion of the course I had not only learned some valuable skills and techniques from the amount of time we spent in practical evolutions, but had a sense of the mistakes we had been making as an agency. Outside of the Police Academy I have never spent so much practical time in a course, and have never been as exhausted as I was after finishing with you. I learned much about the skills and equipment needed to make sure that everyone at the scene is safe, and will be making some suggestion to our Chief officers soon.
Thank you again for your efforts to make us safe on the water. Iâll see you in the next couple of months at the Ice Rescue Technician course."
