Chicago Firefighters Return from Rescue Effort in New York
September 19, 2001 ÷ The 85 Chicago firefighters who drove to New York to assist in efforts to rescue victims of last week's terrorist attacks are back home.
Some say seeing the devastation at the World Trade Center up close is far more jarring than viewing it on television.
But Lieutenant Jim Dorgan says being there didn't help them make sense of what they saw, either.
Still, some say they came home changed.
John McKillop, the Chicago Fire Department's assistant director of training, says the experience puts what's important in life in the proper perspective. His brother-in-law is missing in the Trade Center rubble.
