Woman Loses Arm In Boating Accident

Victim Falls, Catches Arm In Propeller

Woman fell off a pleasure craft while boating in Green Harbor.

"They stopped the bleeding right away, but they searched for the arm for a while," witness Josh Ovaska said. "I saw everyone running down. There were people around her. I saw her come up on the stretcher. There was a lot of blood."

"The wife, an elderly woman, fell over board off the stern, and had her arm amputated," Marshfield Fire Department spokesman Jack Beagle said.

Divers searched for the woman's arm, and it was recovered.

"She was concerned about her wedding rings. He did recover them for her," Harbor Master Sgt. Leonard LaForest said. "It's an unfortunate incident. Those do happen, but the more we can do to minimize them, the better off we are."

One of the employees at the marina where the boat was docked is a member of the fire department. He was able to stop the victim's bleeding as she got off the boat.
