Staff Writer Sun-Sentinel.com Posted: June 8, 2003 A 4-year-old boy drowned Saturday after he went, unnoticed, from his second-floor apartment to the complex pool. Bystanders pulled Dickson Elmas from the water and tried to revive him, according to Fort Lauderdale Police spokesman Detective Dennis Salsberry, but the youngster was pronounced deat at Broward General Medical Center. It was about 4:30 p.m. when the first screams were heard around the two-story, L-shaped apartment complex at 745 NE 15th Ave. The boy's mother realized the boy wasn't in the apartment, looked out the window and saw him in the small kidney-shaped pool. Down the hall, Maria Ramos heard the mother's shouts and looked out her own window. Her visiting 16-year-old godson looked too, then dashed out the door. "I ran out, ran down the steps and dived into the water," said Ryan Giles. He pulled the boy out of the water and, with a resident of the complex, began to press on the the boy's chest. Some water came out of the boy's mouth, Giles said, but Dickson never regained consciousness. "His eyes were all open. He was just still, didn't move at all," Giles said. Ronad Dolcin, who identified himself as Dickson's uncle, said Roseline Elmas, (Dickson's mother) was taking a shower when Dickson wandered out of the apartment.
