Man Rescued From Sinking Boat Dies

Cause Of Accident Under Investigation




A Harwich, Mass., man who was plucked from a sinking boat off Dennis Tuesday has died.

Coast Guard Lt. Col. Pat Cook said that 78-year-old Raymond Eldridge was pronounced dead at Cape Cod Hospital.

Eldridge, and 48-year-old Paul Childs of Barnstable, Mass., were rescued from a sinking recreational boat just before 1:30 p.m. near an area known as Kill Pond Bar off Dennis and Harwich Port.

Eldridge was unresponsive, unconscious and in cardiac arrest when he was taken to a waiting ambulance at a nearby beach.

Childs survived.

The cause of the sinking is under investigation.
