WELLFLEET, Mass. -- A pilot flying over Cape Cod had to make an emergency landing in Wellfleet Harbor Sunday after he had mechanical difficulty with his plane. Pilot Gary Baker, who lives on Cape Cod, called police from the air on his cellular phone at about 1:15 p.m. Wellfleet police said Baker was flying his 1981 single-engine Varga airplane from Chatham, Mass., when he started having problems. He landed his plane in shallow water near the harbor shore. He was retrieved by the Wellfleet Fire Department rescue boat. Baker was not injured.
