Lifeguards Rescue 33 From Rip Currents

March 12, 2002

Spring break in Daytona Beach, Fla., got off to a dangerous start Monday.

Lifeguards rescued 33 people from rip currents that were threatening to pull them out to sea, according to Local 6 News.

Authorities believe that the month of March will be one of the busiest of the year for Daytona's Beach Patrol.

Lifeguards said that they are dealing with inexperienced swimmers who are also abusing alcohol and not swimming near lifeguard stations.

Beach Patrol officials expect the same dangerous ocean conditions all week along the Volusia County coast.
