Clarenville - A vehicle landed in the Southwest River Wednesday afternoon, after leaving the Trans-Canada Highway. The accident happened about 25 kilometres west of Clarenville, when the vehicle hit a guardrail and wound up in the water. Passers-by and members of the Port Blandford Volunteer Fire Department rescued the driver, who was the only person inside. The driver was taken to the hospital, but there's no word on injuries. The RCMP say the fast-moving river, combined with changing ice conditions, made for a hazardous rescue. Road conditions and the weather were good at the time of the accident. |
