A 19-year-old man was in fair condition today, a day after lifeguards
dragged him from the Prairie Village pool in the 7700 block of Mission
Road.
Witnesses told rescuers that the Prairie Village man was in a contest to
see who could hold his breath the longest.

Lifeguards pulled him from the water about 6:50 p.m. and started CPR
when they could not feel a pulse. The man was breathing on his own, but

still unconscious, when an ambulance took him to Shawnee Mission Medical
Center.
