COLUMBUS, Ohio -- A driver was rescued Monday morning after a pickup truck drove off Interstate 270 and landed near Big Walnut Creek.
The accident occurred at about 9:30 a.m. on Interstate 270 between Hamilton Road and I-670, NewsChannel 4 reported.
Police said the vehicle left the roadway, continued along the grass, took out a light pole and then dropped down an embankment.
Firefighters used a ladder truck and some ropes to lift the driver, Lee Bodine, 50, out of the red pickup truck, Chopper 4 pilot Robb Case reported. The rescue was the first time the Mifflin Township Fire Department used a ladder truck as an anchor, NewsChannel 4's Paul Chambers reported.
One of the firefighters reportedly rode along with the injured person on the gurney on the way back up to I-270.
Bodine was tranported to Ohio State University Hospital via medical helicopter, Chambers reported. Bodine was listed in fair condition at Ohio State University Hospital.
Gahanna Police told Chambers that the accident might have been a result of health issues.
The northbound lanes of I-270 were closed until about 10:20 a.m. and traffic was backed up to Broad Street.
