Comprehensive and fast-paced 3-hour classroom-formatted program designed for Lifeguard Instructors and Supervisors; Aquatic Facility Managers and Operators; Aquatic and Recreation Professionals; and Lifeguard personnel.

This program focuses on the prevention, recognition, and management of drowning and aquatic injuries and presents numerous principles, considered to be the Standard of Care within the industry.

Numerous case studies are presented of actual drowning and/or aquatic injury incidents, along with numerous video and/or audio clips of incidents or news stories about these incidents.

Professional Aquatics Safety Seminar

The Professional Aquatics Safety Seminar is a fast-paced, 8 hour educational program that focuses on the prevention, recognition and management of drowning and aquatic injuries. It is designed specifically for anyone with administrative, management or supervisory responsibility for any type of swimming facility, including:

  • Aquatic and Recreation Professionals
  • Lifeguard Instructors and Supervisors
  • Aquatic Facility Managers and Operators
  • Medical Professionals
  • Child Caregivers
  • Parents
  • Lifeguard, Public Safety and Rescue Personnel

The Professional Aquatics Safety Seminar is conducted entirely in a classroom setting and is presented using computer-generated slides and dramatic videotape footage and includes the following curriculum topics:

  • Physiology of Drowning
  • Risk Management, Threat Analysis and Incident Prevention
  • Legal Liability Factors
  • Aquatic Facility and Lifeguard Operations
  • Drowning and Aquatic Injury Case Studies
  • Innovations in Safety and Rescue Equipment
  • Prevention of Aquatic Spinal Injuries
  • Management of Aquatic Spinal Injuries
  • Protection from Bloodborne Pathogens
  • Basic Life Support, AED and Emergency Resuscitation Protocols

Course Schedule
The 8-hour Professional Aquatics Safety Seminar is scheduled from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Sign-in begins at 8:30 AM. There will be a 1-hour lunch break (on your own). Certificates are awarded to those who participate in the entire 8-hour seminar.

CEUs are typically available through state and/or national professional associations for participation in this course, should you wish to arrange.

Lifeguard Pre and In-Service Training

A one-day pre-service/in-service Lifeguard Training Program which includes a 2.5 hour classroom session and a 3.5 hour in-water practical session.

The classroom session focuses on the Standard of Care in the Prevention, Recognition and Management of drowning and aquatic injuries and includes information on:

  • Physiology of Drowning
  • Risk Management and Incident Prevention
  • Legal Liability and Risk Factors
  • Aquatic Facility and Lifeguard Operations
  • Prevention and Management of Aquatic Spinal Injuries

The practical session focuses on critical lifesaving and water rescue skills and information, including a review of all facility rescue and safety and equipment with practical evolutions conducted in the following areas:

  • Emergency Resuscitation Protocols
  • Management of Aquatic Spinal Injuries
  • Emergency Communications and Emergency Response Plans

Finally, whenever feasible, an Emergency Response Drill is coordinated with the local Fire, Rescue and EMS Services which allows the community Public Safety and Rescue organizations the opportunity to work with the Lifeguard team and vice versa during a simulated emergency incident.

Foundations in the Standard of Care for the Prevention, Recognition and Management of Drowning and Aquatic Injuries

Foundations in the Standard of Care for the Prevention, Recognition and Management of Drowning and Aquatic Injuries is a fast-paced and dramatic 2-3 hour educational program designed specifically for anyone with administrative, management or supervisory responsibility for any type of swimming facility, including:

  • Aquatic and Recreation Professionals
  • Lifeguard Instructors and Supervisors
  • Aquatic Facility Managers and Operators
  • Medical Professionals
  • Child Caregivers
  • Parents
  • Lifeguard, Public Safety and Rescue Personnel

This presentation emphasizes the need for on-going vigilant adult supervision anytime children are in, on and around the water, regardless of whether or not Lifeguard personnel are available. This classroom formatted session is presented using computer-generated slides and dramatic videotape footage which demonstrate breaches in the Standard of Care by Lifeguard and Aquatic Facility Managers, Operators, and Lifeguard Personnel.

The Scared Straight of Aquatics

The Scared Straight of Aquatics is a comprehensive, fast-paced, and emotionally-filled 3-hour educational sessiondeveloped and conducted by Gerald M. Dworkin, designed specifically for anyone with administrative, supervisory, management or emergency response responsibility for any type of aquatic facility. This program will prove especially beneficial to Fire, Rescue, EMS, and Lifeguard personnel, as well as Risk Managers, Town and City managers, Insurance representatives, and Health and Safety professionals, as well as parents.

This program focuses on the Prevention, Recognition, and Management of drowning and aquatic injuries and presents multiple principles pertaining to our Foundations in the Standard of Care for the Prevention, Recognition, and Management of Drowning and Aquatic Injuries. Numerous examples are shown throughout the program of the consequences when these principles are breached resulting in a drowning or serious injury. Multiple dramatic video clips are shown throughout the 3-hour program that actually show or depict a drowning or aquatic injury incident.

This program was developed by and is conducted by Gerald M. Dworkin, a professional Aquatics Safety and Water Rescue Consultant for Lifesaving Resources (lifesaving.com) who regularly consults as an Expert in drowning and aquatic injury litigation throughout the U.S. Many of his cases are presented during the course of this program. Dworkin is a noted author and educator in the field of Aquatics, Water Rescue, Ice Rescue, EMS, and Firefighting. As a consultant for Lifesaving Resources, he is also responsible for the development of Aquatics Safety, Lifeguard Training, Water Rescue, and Ice Rescue curriculums and for the conduct of or administration of these programs within the Lifeguard, Aquatics Safety & Recreation Sector, and the Public Safety & Rescue Sector.

The Scared Straight of Aquatics is presented using a state-of-the-art data projector and sound system to project the computer-generated slide program and video clips.
