Lifeguard Pre and In-Service Training
A one-day pre-service/in-service Lifeguard Training Program which includes a 2.5 hour classroom session and a 3.5 hour in-water practical session.
The classroom session focuses on the Standard of Care in the Prevention, Recognition and Management of drowning and aquatic injuries and includes information on:
- Physiology of Drowning
- Risk Management and Incident Prevention
- Legal Liability and Risk Factors
- Aquatic Facility and Lifeguard Operations
- Prevention and Management of Aquatic Spinal Injuries
The practical session focuses on critical lifesaving and water rescue skills and information, including a review of all facility rescue and safety and equipment with practical evolutions conducted in the following areas:
- Emergency Resuscitation Protocols
- Management of Aquatic Spinal Injuries
- Emergency Communications and Emergency Response Plans
Finally, whenever feasible, an Emergency Response Drill is coordinated with the local Fire, Rescue and EMS Services which allows the community Public Safety and Rescue organizations the opportunity to work with the Lifeguard team and vice versa during a simulated emergency incident.
